The way to pull off a red topper

Don’t be afraid to go bold with color.  A monochromatic topper in various shades of red is my favorite way to top a black & white cake.  The richness of the red rose petals at the base of the cake adds the perfect amount of flare to complete this dramatic look.  Love, love, love.

“I was so happy I did the 2 reds and threw in the Fire Opal as well.  It gave it a little POP and went perfectly with our wedding.” – Jamie

“Gruma” was grueling!

This is to date the most intricate topper that I have done.  I wanted to post this custom piece as an example of the extent of complexity that I can achieve in a cake topper.  The more color changes and places where the metal stops/starts is what made it so challenging but I am pleased with the outcome and excited that it might get air time (more on this as I get the details).

Call me nosy but I always like to know the background story on the items I make.  From the “Gruma” website: Gruma is the worlwide leader in corn flour and tortilla production.  I will never eat another tortilla chip without thinking of this topper!

Snowflake cake jewelry

Just when all the holiday decorations were put away and I was feeling glum that the countdown to winter had to restart, Sherri from The Pastry Studio emailed me this picture from a “winter wonderland” event.  She consulted with me on the addition of snowflakes to give it the ‘pop of color’ and the outcome is stunning.

Display it!

The thing I was most excited about when I was getting married was taking my husband’s last name.   The “cherry on top” is that I had a difficult to pronounce maiden name (Gische) and was getting to replace it with a more common surname (Watkins).  Needless to say, my monogram was everywhere at my reception.  I now have my topper in a shadow box in my living room and it is a daily reminder of my wedding day and how proud I am to be a Watkins.  This picture is not the one of my actual topper but it shows how it can look just the same.  I hope you love your topper so much that you also want to display it proudly in your home.

Ocean Blue Cake Toppers

I just love this color combination.  It’s a darker variation of my home page but has a similar feel.  Swarovski offers a lot of crystal colors and there is a lot of variety when it comes to the marine blues.  I think these are the perfect colors for a destination reception on a beach.  The colors make you want to just jump right in!
